REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY CELEBRATION
MANYA KROBO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL- MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT
The Department marked this year’s International Mathematics Day slated for 14th March,2024 under the theme Playing with Mathematics with a Place Value Game. The celebration saw in attendance: the Headmistress, the Inspector of schools – Eastern Regional Education Office, Assistant Head Administration, Assistant Head Domestic, Heads of Departments, Teaching and non- teaching staff and Students.
The main activity for the day was facilitated by Mr. Christopher Amankwah and Mr. Redeemer Avi as Place Value Game. This game involved 30 students, both boys and girls from each house. The numbers, zero to nine with each number appearing three times were written on thirty cards and distributed to the participants of the various houses. The instructors of the game called out the figures in words examples (i) 5,056 (ii) 3,641 (iii) 360,407,508 etc and the students came out with the answers in figures by arranging themselves using the playing cards according to what the instructors mentioned. The students did this in rounds and House four placed first. A riddle was also read as the problem of the day and House four won it. At the end of the competition, House 4 emerged winner and were presented with a trophy. House 2 was second, House 3 was third and House1 was fourth.
Teachers in the department and some management members were nicely dressed in the T-shirt designed for the celebration.
